The Agricultural Leadership Award acknowledges the individual, company, group, association or agency that has made the most significant contribution to the Agricultural community of the Salinas area. That contribution can be of a technical, environmental, cultural, organizational, entrepreneurial, and/or humanitarian nature. 2008 Award Winner: Born and raised in the Salinas Valley, Bob Martin will be presented with the 2008 Agricultural Leadership Award for his lifelong work on behalf of the produce industry. As General Manager for King City based Rio Farms for 27 years, Bob has been a prominent community leader and tireless spokesman for agriculture. He serves as the Chair of Hartnell College President’s Ag Steering Committee, Hartnell College Food Safety Committee, Monterey County Ag Water Advisory Committee, California Leafy Greens Technical Advisory Committee, Monterey County Nitrate Technical Advisory Committee and others. He has advocated and supported research to develop a better understanding of food safety risks and practices. He is a current board member of the Monterey County Farm Bureau (Past President), Salinas River Channel Coalition, Salinas Valley Fair Heritage Foundation, CEO of the King City Young Farmers Foundation and Treasurer for Central Coast Water Quality Preservation, Inc.
